Penalties for Sex Crimes

The penalties for sex crimes often include incarceration time and sometimes a possible life sentence in certain situations and registering as a sex offender. Even minor sex crimes can result in a jail sentence and require lifetime registration as a sex offender. If the sex crime is charged as a felony the penalties can also include:

  • Obligation to include the felony on employment applications
  • Your right to possessing a firearm is banned
  • Increased difficulty to get a California conviction expunged from your record

Legal Defenses for Sex Crimes

Being falsely accused is very common for sex crimes and can come out of jealousy, anger, or spite.

There has to be sexual contact in order for a sex crime to occur. If there was no sexual contact, then you can’t be guilty of a sex crime.

If there was consent, then no sex crime occurred. Even if someone later said they didn’t consent, if they didn’t make it clear during the sex act, then you can’t be convicted of a sex crime.

Have you been legally accused of committing a sex crime? If you have been arrested or charged with a crime, it is essential to obtain legal council for help. It’s important to take your charges seriously. Don’t just hope for the best. Hire an attorney who understands your situation and the consequences you face.
